Former GT Player Takes Up Coaching Role
Gujarat Titans (GT) have officially announced the appointment of former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade as their assistant coach ahead of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). The decision marks a new chapter in Wade’s cricketing career following his retirement from international cricket.
Wade’s History with Gujarat Titans
Matthew Wade was a part of GT’s championship-winning squad in 2022, where he played a crucial role under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. Although his involvement in the 2024 season was limited to just three matches, Wade remained a valuable presence in the squad.
Having gone unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, Wade has now transitioned to a coaching role, bringing his extensive experience as a wicketkeeper and middle-order batsman to the franchise.
An Impressive T20 Career
During his international career, Wade played 92 T20Is for Australia, scoring 1,202 runs and completing 64 dismissals behind the stumps. In the IPL, he featured in 15 matches, gaining experience in the highly competitive league. His knowledge of the game and familiarity with GT’s environment make him a strong addition to the coaching staff.
