Lockie Ferguson Shines on a Challenging Wicket

New Zealand bowler Lockie Ferguson expressed his satisfaction with the challenging wicket after a series of high-scoring games in IPL 2024. Ferguson made history by recording the most economical bowling figures in the ICC T20 World Cup, becoming the second bowler in T20Is to bowl 24 dot balls without conceding a run. His outstanding performance, complemented by the New Zealand bowlers, led to a comfortable win against Papua New Guinea at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on June 17.

New Zealand’s Dominant Victory

New Zealand concluded their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a convincing 7-wicket victory over PNG. Ferguson was named Player of the Match for his remarkable figures of 4-4-0-3. New Zealand’s bowlers were brilliant, each taking a wicket to restrict PNG to 78 runs. The target was chased down with ease within 13 overs.

Ferguson’s Magic with the Ball

Ferguson appreciated the change in fortune for the bowlers and acknowledged the difficulty of batting on the wicket. “Yeah, no, no runs today. But yeah, look, obviously a tough wicket to bat on. So I guess from my point of view, coming from the IPL, where there were a lot of runs being scored. It’s nice to have a wicket like that for a change,” Ferguson said in a video posted by the ICC.

“It was just one of those days, I think you sort of have them from time to time, but as I said, the wicket was not easy to bat on. You could see when our boys went on it as well. So I guess from a bowling point of view, nice to be able to bowl on wickets like that. But I can’t see it happening too many times.”

Tribute to Trent Boult

Ferguson also expressed his disappointment with New Zealand’s early exit from the tournament and paid tribute to Trent Boult, who played his last World Cup match for the Blackcaps. “Look, I, I love playing for New Zealand. I’m just really gutted. We sort of got knocked out the way we did. But at the same time, really enjoyed playing with this group of guys, obviously Boulty with his last game today. It’s going to be sad, not having him with the group. But, you know, it’s been an incredible career and certainly been nice to sort of follow him in every game. So, I wish him all the best.”

“It’s a tough one, I think. Now we’re sort of going, uh, apart as a team for a few months. So, naturally, you’re gonna miss your good mates, um, and look forward to, I guess, touching base later in the year,” Ferguson added.(live score cricket ipl)
