Delhi Capitals Announce Major Operational Changes Ahead of IPL 2025 Auction
On Thursday, October 17, the Delhi Capitals franchise announced significant changes in its operational structure ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. In a strategic decision, the franchise’s owners, GMR and JSW Groups, revealed that they will alternate the management of the men’s and women’s teams on a two-year rotational cycle.
Rotational Management Between GMR and JSW
For the next two years, GMR Group will take over the cricket operations of the Delhi Capitals men’s team, while JSW Sports will handle the operations of the women’s team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). After this period, in 2027, the roles will reverse, with JSW Sports assuming control of the men’s team. The franchise hopes this alternating management approach will lead to improved operational efficiency across both teams.
Business Operations to Remain Consistent
Despite the shift in cricket operations, the business side of the franchise will continue to be managed by the existing Delhi Capitals management team. Crucial decisions, including auctions, captaincy, player retention, and releases, will still be overseen by the Delhi Capitals board, with input from the leadership teams of both GMR and JSW.
History of GMR and JSW Collaboration
The GMR Group, a founding owner of the IPL franchise in 2008 when the team was initially branded as the “Delhi Daredevils,” entered a 50:50 ownership partnership with JSW Sports in 2018, leading to the team’s rebranding as Delhi Capitals. Since its inception, the Delhi Capitals have been a key participant in the IPL, securing several playoff berths, including a runner-up finish in 2020.
Strong Performance from Both Teams
The Delhi Capitals Women’s team, acquired in 2023, has shown strong performance in the WPL, reaching the final in both seasons. Meanwhile, the men’s team has also consistently performed, highlighted by their best-ever finish as second runners-up in 2019 and their first IPL final appearance in 2020.
Expansion Beyond India
Beyond the IPL and WPL, GMR will continue to manage the Dubai Capitals in the International League T20 (ILT20), while JSW Sports will oversee the Pretoria Capitals in the South African SA20 League, further solidifying their presence in global cricket.(live score cricket ipl)
